Cellulose Acetate Syringe Filters are hydrophilic and are appropriate for maximum sample recovery, such as tissue culture media preparation, sterile or non-sterile filtration and are ideally suited for protein and enzyme samples. They are not compatible with organic solvents.
Nylon Syringe Filters are hydrophilic and are designed for sterilization or clarification of samples. They are compatible with most solvents, however, using them with strong acids and methylene chloride is not advocated.
Polyethersulfone (PES) Syringe Filters are hydrophilic and well suited for maximum sample recovery such as media preparation, filtration and clarification of fluids, buffers, and other aqueous solutions in which low protein binding and low extractables are important. They are compatible with most solvents; however, using them with strong acids is not advocated.
PTFE (Teflon®) Syringe Filters are hydrophobic and are designed to filter most aggressive solvents, acids, and base samples. PTFE is also an ideal choice for venting applications.
